The Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County is getting ready to put on their annual NonProfit University (NPU), and you’re not going to want to miss out! If you’re a director, board member, donor, staff member, volunteer or key leader in a nonprofit organization or in the Huntsville area or surrounding communities, then this is the event to attend on June 22, 2016!
We are big fans of the work The Community Foundation does, and strives to do, for Huntsville and the surrounding communities. You don’t want to miss out on what they have to offer you!
Four Secrets to Learn at NPU!
1 – Successful nonprofits don’t just happen. And in today’s day and age, when the competition for the donor’s time, attention and money is getting tougher each year, it will be imperative to keep sharpening your understanding of your mission and how you should respond to the changing landscape. NonProfit University Huntsville is working tirelessly to provide the tools and insight necessary to help our region’s nonprofits learn how to respond to challenges and grow.
Most of the nonprofit leaders I know, and that represents a fairly sizable group, have not gone through programs that have anticipated the radical changes that we are facing in many dimensions of our work today. And I am not just talking about the severe cutbacks to resources by public entities and the decline of resources available to nonprofits because of a bad economy; I am talking about the anticipation of radical changes in the demands of our local, regional, state, national, and international economies to have differently educated individuals who can function in a global economy. ~ William Truehart
2 – Networking! Actual community impact doesn’t happen in isolation. You need partners. You need fellow workers in the community. You need a team surrounding you, and you need to be a part of a greater team. We all want to make a difference in the community we serve. If you don’t, then you shouldn’t be a nonprofit organization. NPU includes a networking reception at the end of the day to unwind and meet new colleagues from our nonprofit community.
We live in a time of massive institutional failure, collectively creating results that nobody wants. Climate change. AIDS. Hunger. Poverty. Violence. Terrorism. Destruction of communities, nature, life—the foundations of our social, economic, ecological, and spiritual well-being. This time calls for a new consciousness and a new collective leadership capacity to meet challenges in a more conscious, intentional, and strategic way. The development of such a capacity would allow us to create a future of greater possibilities. ~ Otto Scharmer
3 – Training. Maybe you’re an expert at grant writing. Maybe you already know how to win those six and seven-figure grant awards. Or maybe you already know about donor relations, and you’re an expert at marketing. Or how about volunteers? You probably know how to manage volunteers well and encourage more from your volunteers. I bet your board is also amazing—they are likely experts at leveraging their relationships and resources to get things done for your organization. And while you might be an expert at one or two tasks a nonprofit leader needs to know, there are things you and your team can always learn.

NonProfit University keeps getting better and better each year. The content is valuable, but the relationships are even more valuable. Go. Be seen. Be heard. Learn. Contribute. Let’s work together and learn together to improve what we are doing in this community—together.
