I had a wonderful childhood. There are so many memories I could recount, but my mind always goes to Friday nights out. Every Friday night, my parents would take me out to eat somewhere, then to the bookstore. It was the one time I could get all fancy—whatever that means to a kid. Then we would go to Books-A-Million to pick out books for the next week.
Now that I’m a writer with a weight problem [Managing Editor’s note: She’s winning that battle!], you can understand why I loved these outings so much. One of our favorite places to go was Terry’s Pizza. We went to the South Parkway location where you could walk around the shops at Haysland Square after dinner. Does anyone remember Ben Franklin’s craft store? Or that old barber shop with the barber’s pole?
To this day, I stand by my conclusion that Terry’s Pizza is the best pizza in town. After they closed, Star Market picked up their brand of pizzas for you to take home with you and cook. They’re great, but they’re nothing compared to the ones cooked in the restaurant.
But on Monday, al.com released a news story stating that Terry’s Pizza was coming back in that shopping center across from Grissom. As a Grissom grad [Virgil I. till I die!], I’m so sad this didn’t happen while I was in school. Then again, they might have had to roll me down the halls if it had been right there across the street, so it’s probably for the best.
If you’re new to the area, you absolutely must try out the new Terry’s Pizza. If you’ve lived here forever, I know I’ll see you there.
You wouldn’t miss that.
