In the 1960s Huntsville held the Christmas parade at night. After it was over, everyone would walk around downtown and look at the animated Christmas scenes set up in the windows of stores like Eleanor’s and Butler Shoes.
The displays were somewhere between the ones shown in “Miracle on 34th Street” and the tabletop Christmas villages in so many homes today. Those downtown displays depicted scenes of ice skaters and Santa Claus for the kids to see as they walked around.
We miss that.
