Chupper Time’s Broccoli Salad Earns 5 Stars—and Some Puns

Let me start by saying I will be talking a lot about broccoli salad. If you’re not a broccoli fan, then you still need to keep reading because this will certainly sway you over. But if you do enjoy those tiny tasty trees, then your world will be forever changed.

When my dear, childhood friend told us she was pregnant, I got SO excited to plan a baby shower for her and her sweet baby. I enlisted the help of two other friends who also adore the mother-to-be and delegated out the responsibilities. I was handling the invitations and detail management, Friend #1 was in charge of decorations, and Friend #2 was in charge of the food. Friend #1 did an excellent job with the decorations. Think baby elephants with teal/pink streamers and balloons. So precious!

But Friend #2 really hit a home run with the food. She sought out several catering options until she remembered a story in the Community Journal for Chupper Time Catering. A couple of emails, some phone calls and a text message or two, and Casey Crosby, one half of the Chupper Time duo, had helped Friend #2 choose the menu: Apple Walnut Cranberry Salad, Berry Angel Food Cake, Banana Pudding, Broccoli Salad, Chicken Salad Finger Sandwich Platter and Avocado Chicken Salad Wraps. Let me tell you, every single one of them was a smashing success.

But that’s enough about the backstory. You came here to read about the food. I’m going to review my favorites, because I only have a limited number of words to convey the awesomeness created by this lovely company.

Avocado Chicken Salad Wrap

Avocado Chicken Salad wraps were a hit!

I’m basically a sucker for anything involving avocado, but you incorporate southern chicken salad, and I’m all yours. This is so creamy and delicious without being super heavy, which is a good thing because it leaves more room in your tummy for broccoli salad. The platter was also garnished with fresh cherries! This might seem like a small detail, but as someone who adores this fruit cherry much, I greatly appreciated the edible garnish.

Berry Angel Food Cake

Everyone loves Berry Angel Food Cake.

This layered dessert is aptly named because it was simply DIVINE. I’m a big fan of the traditional trifle, but this one not only had the typical berries, whipped cream and angel food cake, but it also incorporated lemon cake pieces. Y’all. Just one simple ingredient that ramped this up to heavenly levels. I don’t even like blueberries, but I was scarfing this down like it was my job. It really was a berry excellent dessert.

Broccoli Salad

We finally have the broccoli salad!

We’re here at last. Let me just read you the menu description of this life-changing dish. “Absolutely loaded with yummy flavors. Broccoli, bacon, golden raisins, pecans, and cheese all tossed in an amazing homemade sweet dressing that will totally rock your taste buds!!! Say hello to your new favorite salad.”

I couldn’t agree more. I seriously had to take a break from writing this, because my mouth was salivating so heavily even thinking about this phenomenal gift to mankind. Like, I’m secretly hoping that Chupper Time will read this and elect to gift me with a lifetime supply of broccoli salad. Words cannot truly convey how treely magnificent this salad was.

A 5-star spread

Overall, I give this magnificent spread 5 stars. That’s one thing I love about the South. We use every excuse we possibly can to get together and eat food. Our culture loves to eat! And the mom-to-be certainly felt that love, as she expressed in her thank you note to the hostesses, “Thank you so much for hosting a shower for baby girl and me! Everything you guys did was incredible, and I can’t thank you enough! It was perfect! I had so much fun and felt super loved…” Her kind words were undoubtedly inspired by the deliciously catered food from Chupper Time.

I’m also happy to report that this mom had a perfectly happy and beautifully healthy baby this week, and something tells me that child will already have an affinity for broccoli salad.
