Wouldn’t it be easier if everyone saw differences the way Jax Rosebush does? The 5-year-old from Lexington, Kentucky, is melting hearts nationwide after he told his mother that he wanted a haircut to look like his friend, Reddy.
Last week Jax’s mother, Lydia, told her son he needed a haircut to tame his wild mane.
“He said that he wanted his head shaved really short so he could look like his friend Reddy,” Lydia wrote on her Facebook page. “He said he couldn’t wait to go to school on Monday with his hair like Reddy’s so that his teacher wouldn’t be able to tell them apart. He thought it would be so hilarious to confuse his teacher with the same haircut.”
Here’s the thing: Jax is white, and Reddy is black. Lydia posted a photo of the two of them so her friends could see the resemblance—or lack thereof.
The story has since gone viral with news outlets all over the country picking up the story and falling in love with the adorable kids who just want to prank their teacher. In the end, Lydia agreed to let her son get his hair buzzed to look like Reddy.
Still no word on whether or not the teacher was confused.
“If this isn’t proof that hate and prejudice is something that is taught, I don’t know what is,” Lydia wrote. “The only difference Jax sees in the two of them is their hair.”
