Faces and Places

Huntsville Love Birds Featured on Steve Harvey

We love Steve Harvey, and if you’re a fan of his show, you might have recognized some familiar faces on Tuesday’s episode. Murphy and Lucinda Wilson are Huntsville natives whose engagement photos went viral. These aren’t your typical engagement photos, though. Murphy is 70, and Lucinda is 67. Even though they fell in love a little later in life than most people, it didn’t stop them from taking adorable, sappy engagement photos before their 2017 wedding.

You can see them here.

Those photos went viral, making them the poster children for late-in-life love.

Murphy and Lucinda fell in love at church and got married at First Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Huntsville. They were especially adorable during the wedding, and thanks to their photographer, the whole world got little glimpses of their romance.

“When I saw her coming down the aisle, it took everything in me to hold it together. She looked so beautiful!,” Murphy said in an Instagram post by their photographer, Gianna Snell.

Two years later, the duo were invited to the Steve Harvey show during his week-long feature on love.

“My first wife passed, and so I was at church, and I couldn’t find a seat on the main floor. So I sat in the balcony, and it was about a year or two, but I kept noticing (Lucinda),” Murphy told Steve Harvey.

At first he noticed her hair, then she smiled and Murphy “was like — whoa.”

“I was holding back because I was like, I’m not ready, but I couldn’t take my eyes off of her,” Murphy said.

One part of the story, when Murphy admitted to checking to see if that was really Lucinda’s hair, got Steve Harvey laughing so hard he had to take a second to regain his composure.

Lucinda chimed in and said she knew Murphy was looking at her for a year and a half before he did anything about it because her friend was sitting a few rows behind Murphy and saw the whole thing.

She played hard-to-get, though, and never looked at Murphy — even after she knew he was “checking her out.”

“Y’all young people, pay attention,” Steve Harvey interrupted. “This is game.”

This isn’t the first time they’ve gotten media attention. Essence, ABC News and local news stations have all picked up the engagement photos.

You can watch the whole hilarious clip here.

This isn’t the first time someone from Huntsville has been on the Steve Harvey show. Madison Pastor Rod Windham went on the Steve Harvey show to explain his now-infamous “naked grandma” answer on Family Feud.

We wish Murphy and Lucinda a very happy Valentine’s Day.
