“Fowl” Conditions Stall Traffic

Usually when Memorial Parkway is backed up, it’s because of rush hour or a fender bender. That wasn’t the case on Wednesday, though, when Huntsville Police officers stopped traffic for a different reason.

When a mother duck and her ducklings got stranded, a few officers jumped in to help.

“North bound Memorial Parkway at Airport Rd had to be shut down for a few minutes this morning due to some ‘fowl’ road conditions,” according to one Facebook post. “Officers Bruce Jansen, Cantrell and Jones were able to get this little family across the road. Officers found them a home at the old golf course on Airport Rd while mom surveyed the area from the air.”

The duck family was then spotted relaxing in a pond at their new home. Commenters were quick to jump in with their support.

“Thank you HPD!” one person wrote. “Keeping Huntsville safe for all our inhabitants! I wondered what that was about as there were no signs of an accident!”
