Gold Star Family Memorial to Debut Oct. 17

After months of fundraising and preparation, the Alabama Gold Star Memorial Monument is ready to be revealed at the downtown Huntsville Madison County Veterans Memorial.

A Gold Star family is anyone who had an immediate family member die while serving in a time of conflict. As of 2015, there were 1,728,710 Gold Star families in the United States.

According to the website, “This monument is a tribute to our Gold Star Families, including their loved ones who lost their lives in combat or in support of certain military activities as members of the United States Armed Forces.”

The Patriot Guard Riders, a group of motorcyclists devoted to honoring veterans, escorted the monument from the manufacturing facility in Kentucky to its permanent location in Huntsville.

There are two ways to support the Gold Star Family monument: You can purchase an engraved brick for $100, or an engraved bench for $5,000. Click here for more information on purchasing tributes.

Organizers will unveil the monument at a ceremony on October 17 at 10 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
