Top Cops: HPD Sergeant Honored For Special Event Traffic Patrol

  • Sgt. Mark Shahan, a 36-year veteran of the Huntsville Police Department, was recognized as the Special Operations Division Supervisor of the Year for 2016. Shahan oversees the first shift of the Traffic Task Force Unit that works traffic for special events in Huntsville. His team helps ease the driving headache for races, runs, parades, food truck rallies and other special events. 
  • Investigator Chad Smith with the HPD was honored with an award from the Greatest Save group. Smith is an 18-year HPD veteran who works in domestic violence and investigates all crimes against children.

  • Investigator Cathy Davis with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received an award from Kindervision for her work on internet crimes against children. Kindervision is a nonprofit dedicated to teaching personal safety for children and teens.
  • Madison County Sheriff’s deputies raised more than $12,000 for the Special Olympics through their Torch Run.
