Happy birthday, Dawson White.
The Huntsville man isn’t just celebrating another year older in 2020, he’s celebrating a full century of life. Dawson turned 100 on August 8 and celebrated coronavirus-style with a small party of family.
Dawson enlisted in the Army in World War II and continued to serve through the Korean War, according to his son, Dawson White, Jr.
He still remembers his early days of service, especially his time at boot camp.
“We went out to the rifle range,” Dawson said. “We had some target practice. When it came time for score to be timed, there were about 200 people in the unit, and I was one of three to get the expert medal. It’s on my discharge that I’m an expert shooter.”
He left a legacy of military service as well. Dawson Jr. was a Marine who served at Paris Island during the Vietnam conflict, according to his Facebook page.
The Community Journal thanks Dawson for his service.
